Stimulus Check Used
GF's stimulus check has been deposited; mine is due today so we'll probably see it monday or tuesday. She insisted, repeatedly, that I use it to obtain a PS3 and GTA IV.
No, I'm serious. And I even resisted. For several weeks (months, arguably, as she's been semi-seriously nudging me in this direction since Christmas). Ask her if you don't believe me.
After much cajoling, I swung by Best Buy to pick her up, and after much grunting and tearing of T-shirts and relocation of furniture, it is plugged in and humming away.
Random observations:
- The ability to view YouTube, while kinda nifty, is not well implemented.
- worth noting: NO OTHER .FLV BASED SITE WORKS
- Kinda sucks that I had to spend another $20 for the ability to view media on my Mac on the PS3 (and by extension the TV) but OMG so worth it - setup is a breeze, compatibility is astounding, video quality is beyond compare.
- GTA IV, while incredibly deep and immersive, has a totally different button mapping for driving, and this is more difficult than one might assume to overcome.
- I had heard rumors about the loss of PS2 compatability, and it makes me sad. Good thing the PS2 is currently plugged into the A/V bridge on the computer.
- Even without an HD set, GTA IV looks really. damned. impressive.
- Why the FUCK do HDMI cables cost $50-100? IT'S A FREAKING CABLE!!!!
